Description
Green depression glass commemorating the rally call “Remember the Maine, to Hell with Spain!” On February 15th, 1898, battleship USS Maine exploded off the coast of Cuba killing nearly 2/3rds of its crew. This incident was blamed on Spain due to rising tensions. Though it was not the outright cause of the Spanish-American war, it was a factor in the breakdown of diplomatic talks. The cause of the USS Maine’s sinking is subject to speculation.
Although this piece does not have an exact manufacture date, research suggests it was made between 1900-1940.
